Joseph P. Meyers
1930-2021
Joseph P. Meyers, 90 of Palm Coast, passed away peacefully March 22, 2021 at Tranquility Senior Care.
Mr. Meyers was born March 25, 1930 in Cleveland, OH., a son of Joseph & Marie Szczech Meyers.
Upon graduating from Western Reserve University with a BS in geophysics, he joined the United States Navy. He served as an Engineering Officer aboard the USS Maury that charted the waters in the early stages of the missile program. He served as an engineering officer and rose to the rank of Lieutenant. While serving in the Navy, he survived two helicopter crashes. After he was honorably discharged, he attended the Case Western Reserve University School of Law, where he received his LLB and Juris Doctorate. For his last two years of law school, he worked part-time for a Cleveland law firm of Johnson, Whitmer and Sayer. He continued with them on a full time basis one year after law school. Joe sat for and passed the bar examination and was admitted to practice in the State of Ohio. He also was admitted to practice for the U.S. Patent Bar, the Federal Bar, licensed for practice before the Internal Revenue Service, the Interstate Commerce Commission and the U. S. Court of Military Justice.
While serving in the Navy, he survived two helicopter crashes. After he was honorably discharged, he attended the Case Western Reserve University School of Law, where he received his LLB and Juris Doctorate.
In 1959 he worked for National Steel Castings which merged with Midland- Ross Corp. then he served until 1969 as Vice President of Midland-Ross Corporation. Where he was responsible for supervision of staff functions to management of International Operations, for 22 plants in 19 countries in Europe, South America and Asia. He created and implemented the program where not such activity had existed at the company in years past. From 1969-1972, he served as Group Vice President of Microdot Inc. in Southern California. Mr. Meyers had responsibility for 6 operating divisions, in 13 plants. He consolidated them into larger units. From 1973 to 1978 he served as the President and CEO of Viking Industries, Inc.
Mr. Meyers is married to a Cleveland girl, and had two children. His wife, Ann is a graduate of The Cleveland Institute of Fine Art. As a couple they loved to travel and as a family they were boating enthusiasts.
Besides his wife of 68 years, the former Ann Saurwein, whom he married July 29, 1952, he leaves a daughter-in-law Kimberly Meyers of Winter Park, and his granddaughter Lacota Meyers of Winter Park.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Alan Meyers and Douglas Meyers.
Burial with full military honors will take place at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, Florida.
