It was a total loss.
Steven and Autumn Konen were out shopping on March 28, when they received a call from the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office that their house was on fire.
The only member of the family who was home at Princes Dolores Drive at the time was a pet dog. FCSO Deputy Jeckovich was on the scene, along with the Palm Coast Fire Department, and he noticed that a dog was inside the house. He was told that the only way to rescue the dog would be to break into the front door. So, as recorded on his body cam video that was uploaded to the FCSO’s Facebook page that day, Jeckovich broke the glass in the front door and then stepped back. About 30 seconds later, as smoke was pouring out of the door, the dog leaped out and ran to the firefighters.
According to a family friend, Matt Guiliano, the dog is normally gold in color, but it was pure gray with ash as it ran out of the house.
“The home is a total loss,” Guiliano said in an email to the Palm Coast Observer. “These people lost literally everything. I am trying to help them, as they are a young family with a 12-year-old daughter. … You can imagine how hard it would be to literally need to rebuy every piece of clothing, couches, beds, lights, pots, pans, anything and everything you’ve ever owned.”
