The Rotary Club of Palm Coast held its first “Quiz for a Cause” on Wednesday, March 24, at Coquina Coast Brewing Company in Flagler Beach. Hosted by Thomas Media Solutions, 12 teams participated, and over $400 was raised for CART (Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust), a project of the Rotary Clubs of North America.

CART was launched in 1996 with Rotarians voluntarily emptying their pockets and purses of change at weekly meetings. Today, the CART Fund is dedicated to raising funds to provide “seed” money for cutting edge, high impact research in hopes of finding a cure/prevention for Alzheimer’s disease.

The goal of the fund is to encourage exploratory and developmental Alzheimer’s research within the United States by providing financial support for early and conceptual stages of those projects that may not yet be supported by extensive preliminary data but have the potential to substantially advance biomedical research.

CART bylaws require that 100% of donated funds must go to Alzheimer’s Disease research; as of May 2020, over $9.2 million in grants have been awarded to 55 different research institutions.

For more information visit the Rotary Club of Palm Coast on the web or on Facebook. The club is currently using a hybrid meeting format with in-person and Zoom meetings Wednesdays at 5:30 pm.
