The Matanzas track team competed at the Class 3A-Region 1 meet Saturday, May 1, resulting in one athlete heading to the state championships and many personal records for the team.
"The team did really well earning a lot of PRs," Matanzas' head track coach Tim Kane said. "Bradyn Cox led our effort by qualifying for the State Championships in the discus."
Leading the girls was Elecktra Engblom who PR'd in the 200 meters with a 26.88 and the long jump at 15'8.75". Zach Spooner led the boys with ninth place in the 3200 meter run and a PR of 10:19.98 which is 21 seconds faster.
State Championships are being held Friday and Saturday, May 7-8 at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville. Cox will compete in his event on Friday.
