Being held just about a week prior to Memorial Day this year, the upcoming Lori Fund concert and golf tournament fundraiser comes at a perfect time. The concert, featuring Pryor and Lee, is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, May 21, at the Hammock Beach Ocean Golf Course, outside at the driving range overlooking the ocean. The sold-out golf tournament is scheduled for the next day on the Ocean Course at Hammock Beach.
“We donated $100,000 to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation as well as other select U.S. Army veteran groups last year,” said founder of The Lori Fund Frank Petruno. “Lives change when your parent is killed in the line of duty, and the funds raised help to ensure these children will receive the counseling they need, get a good education, and fulfill most any other needs they may have.”
Frankie Petruno started The Lori Fund, a 501c3, after his wife, Lori Sullivan, died April 11, 2019. To honor Lori’s legacy of giving, kindness, and love, Frankie is turning his personal tragedy and devastating loss into something powerful by doing what Lori always did, give to others.
“Lori was selfless, a great daughter, sibling, friend, mother, and grandmother. Together we shared an unbelievable bond of love and I refuse to let her passing go unnoticed,” he said. “Lori was a military mom, our son Robert currently serves in the special forces in the U.S. Army – what a great way to support these families and carry on her legacy of giving back to those in need, Lori would be so proud of the charity we selected."
The evening of the event, which is held Saturday night May 22 following the golf tournament, retired U.S. Gen. Raymond A. “Tony” Thomas III, who formerly served as the 11th commander of U.S. Special Operations Command headquartered at MacDill Air Force Base, will be the guest speaker.
In addition, Gold Star family member Cameron Kocan (child of Lt. Col. Keith Kocan, who worked with the U.S. Special Operations Command Center and died April 25, 2006) will speak on behalf of Special Operations Warrior Foundation.
