The Sons of the American Legion Post 267 recently donated $500 to the Halifax Humane Society.
According to an announcement, the Sons donate to this charity and others in the community on an annual basis. Earlier this year, the Sons donated $1,000 to the local Boy Scout troop, $150 to Wreaths Across America, and $70-$100 each month to the Barracks of Hope Veterans Home in Daytona Beach.
On Saturday, Nov. 6, the American Legion post worked with Boy Scouts to place flags on the graves of veterans at Volusia Memorial Park Cemetery in advance of Veterans Day.
Auxilium ManusDEO, First Baptist Daytona and other businesses are gearing up for a toy distribution that will benefit over 300 local children from six weeks old to 5 years old who attend Mid Florida Head Start schools.

The Ormond-by-the-Sea Lions Club had a busy October.
President Lion Greg Evans and other Lions toured the food pantry at St. Brendan's Catholic Church, where Lion Vince Colonna is the director. The pantry is open on Saturday mornings 10-11:45 a.m. Lions brought items to donate to the food pantry, as well as monetary donations.
In addition, Evans and Past Presidents Mary Yochum and Bobbie Cheh, along with OBTS Lions Club Secretary Jean Cerullo, attended the District Advisory meeting in Brooksville on Oct. 16, joining 80 other Lions from across the state.
On Oct. 22 and 23, the Lions participated in White Cane Days at the club's local Publix and Alfie's Restaurant. Over 10 members took two-hour shifts to cover both days, and according to a press release, it was a successful fundraiser. Lions and their friends also got together and washed bottle caps for a recycled bench the club hopes to have in the future.
The OBTS Lions Club meets the first and third Wednesday of every month at Alfie's Restaurant, located at 1666 Ocean Shore Blvd. For more information, call 441-4421.
As part of an annual tradition, employees with Volusia County's Parks, Recreation and Culture Division will send personalized postcards from Santa to children up to 12 years old.
Parents can have their children added to Santa’s mailing list by sending the child’s full name and address to [email protected] by Dec. 13.
Volusia County's public transit system received six statewide awards and three recognitions, following the recent Florida Public Transportation Association's annual conference at the Ocean Center.
According to a county press release, Votran received the 2021 Bus Safety Excellence Gold Award and the Outstanding System of the Year award, as well as was the recipient of marketing awards for its safety and internal COVID-19 information campaigns.
Four employees were also recognized at the conference. John Foderaro, a master technician with Votran for 41 years, was named Florida's Technician of the Year. Bus operator Patricia Speranza was named Transit Hero of the Year for quickly and safely evacuating her bus during a serious incident. Maintenance Trainer Scott Groth was recognized for graduating from the Center for Urban Transportation/FDOT-certified Transit Technician program. Safety and Training Supervisor Tamika Whitaker was celebrated for graduating from the FPTA Leadership Training program.
Finally, volunteer Steve Jack, of Med-One Shuttle, which contracts with Votran to provide Gold Service trips, was named Volunteer of the Year.
The Ormond Beach Garden Club is hosting a wreath-making workshop and plant sale at The Casements, located at 25 Riverside Drive, on Wednesday, Dec. 8.
The cost to participate in the workshop is $25, and interested individuals must reserve their spot by Nov. 20. The workshop will start at 9:30 a.m. and run through noon. Drop-ins for the plant sale are welcome.
