Seabreeze sophomore Amelia Cobb finished third at the Class 2A state girls golf championship Nov. 12-13 at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills and led the Sandcrabs to a fourth-place team finish.
Cobb had five birdies over two rounds to shoot 1-over par on consecutive days for a 73-73—146, two strokes in back of runner-up Alexandra Gazzoli of Matanzas (74-70—144).
Mainland's Loa Johannsson finished seventh with a 73-78—151.
In the boys' state tournament, Seabreeze's Brandon Godfrey tied for 12th place with a 79-79—158. Godfrey had the top finish among Volusia and Flagler county golfers. The Sandcrab boys finished 16th among state qualifiers.
The Seabreeze girls shot 342-335—677 to finish one stroke behind third-place team Archbishop McCarthy.
In addition to Cobb finishing third, Seabreeze's Hannah Ashton was 28th with an 83-84—167, and Riley Fletcher was 33rd with an 81-87—168.
The girls played at Mission Inn's Las Colinas Course, while the boys played on the El Campeon Course.
Cobb's third-place finish was the highest in school history. The Sandcrabs, who have won the girls team runner-up trophy three times (1983, 1997 and 1998), have never produced a female individual champ or runner-up.
The Seabreeze girls finished 10th in the state at the Class 3A cross country championships Nov. 12 at Apalachee Park in Tallahassee.
Twin sisters McKenzie Roy and Ariana Roy led the Sandcrabs with top-30 finishes. McKenzie Roy ran the 5K in 19:48.3 for 26th place, while Ariana Roy was 28th with a time of 19:50.3.
Ella Chandler (20:13.4) was 48th, Nickole Dane (20:38.9) was 73rd and Kyla Anderson (22:50.1) was 174th.
The Seabreeze boys finished 25th with Tyler Herndon leading the way with a time of 16:40.8 for 31st place. Hayden Herndon (17:36.2) finished 99th, Dominic Marinaccio (18:18.3) was 152nd, Tyler Lewis (18:27.1) was 161st and Jacob Labonte (18:36.9) was 171st.
The Father Lopez boys were 29th in the Class 1A championships. Andrew Gazzoli led the way for the Green Wave with a time of 17:26.1 to finish in 39th-place.
