Mad Dogs Flag Football of Palm Coast has completed its fall 2021 season with its championship
weekend festivities on Nov. 13th at Matanzas High School.
Following its first season working with Flagler County Schools, Mad Dogs was proud to give its young players a chance to experience playing on a high school field under the lights.
Each season, Mad Dogs (a 501c3 nonprofit) serves around 300 boys and girls ages 5-15 with a flag
football experience unlike any other. Mad Dogs was formed to give Palm Coast and Flagler County a locally owned and operated league that was fully invested in the community and the future of its children.
Mad Dogs uses local vendors whenever possible, receives a tremendous amount of support from local businesses and works with the local high schools.
Following a competitive regular season and an exhilarating championship night, the following champions were
crowned:
• 6-and-Under: Raiders, coached by Donnie Veit.
• 8U: Vikings, coached by Eric Thompson.
• 10U: Buccaneers, coached by Tommy Ascone.
• 12U: Lions, coached by Michael Schottey.
• 15U: Vikings, coach by Vuthy Try.
Championship games were not only notable for numerous first-time winners, but also because four of the five
championships were decided by one touchdown or less with many going down to the final moment or into overtime.
The night also included an appearance from the Lady Jaguars Cheer and Dance Organization of Flagler County. League DJ Irv Nyce and Director of Development Michael Schottey shared masters of ceremony duties.
Honorary captains for the night, who participated in pre-game ceremonial coin tosses, included Dr. Jen Thornton (president of the Flagler County Education Foundation and former Mad Dogs board member), Matt Forrest (Matanzas head football coach and Mad Dogs board member) and Kyle Johnson (Matanzas assistant football coach and former NFL player).
Mad Dogs' next season will start in January. Registration is open for the next two weeks at https://maddogsfootball.net
Mad Dogs is planning its first-ever 17U season this winter, pending sign-up interest.
