1930-2021
Bernard H. Strasser, 91, of Ormond Beach, FL went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 10, 2021.
Bernie grew up in Norwich, NY and graduated from Norwich High School in 1947. He was King of the Prom and a basketball and track star. He earned his undergraduate degree from Arizona State and then volunteered for the draft for the Korean War. He rose quickly through the ranks in the Army and became a Sergeant. After he was honorably discharged he attended the Wharton School of business and earned his MBA. He went on to work for General Electric as an accountant but decided this wasn’t for him. He then attended Duke University and earned his Law degree. He was a practicing attorney for 56 years in Volusia County. While attending Duke University he met Irene Abernethy and they were married in 1958. Within a year of being married they decided to move to Florida and have lived in Volusia County ever since. Mr. Strasser has always been involved with many civic organizations, bar associations and church work. He was Co-founder of the Halifax Habitat for Humanity Project and 1st President of its Board of Directors; 2-time President of the Ormond by the Sea Rotary Club; Chairman of the Salvation Army Daytona Beach Advisory Board; President of the Board of Directors of the ACT Corporation; President of the Volusia County Bar Association; Florida Bar; and an Elder and Deacon of the First Presbyterian Church. He was honored with numerous awards from Volunteer of the Year for Halifax Habitat for Humanity, United Way Volunteer of the year and a Paul Harris Fellow Award from the Rotary Club. He will be greatly missed within the community, civic and law organizations.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Strasser, sons, Drew Strasser (Lori) and Brian Strasser (Rosalind), daughter, Michelle S. Warden (Stephen), sister, Janet Purdy, (Ithaca, NY), sister-in-law, Helen Strasser (Ormond Beach) as well as 5 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
His memorial service will be at Holly Hill Church of Christ on December 4, 2021 @ 11:00am. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be given in his name to Halifax Habitat for Humanity and the Salvation Army-Daytona Beach.
