Face coverings are now optional for Volusia County School employees, visitors

Those who would like to continue to wear a mask may do so.

Face coverings are now optional for all adults — employees, volunteers, parents and visitors — at Volusia County Schools, according to an announcement made by Superintendent Scott Fritz on Thursday, Oct. 7.

The change is due to the downward trend of COVID-19 cases in the community, the superintendent wrote. Employees who would like to continue wearing a face covering are able to do so. 

"We will continue to closely monitor the course of the virus and will notify you of any updates," Fritz wrote. "And remember, if you are sick or experiencing symptoms of illness, please stay home. Let’s continue to all work together for a safe, healthy, and successful school year!"

VCS first made face coverings mandatory for adults on Aug. 12.
