Matanzas took the team and individual titles in both the boys and girls events at the Coach Hope Memorial Cross Country Invitational on Oct. 16 at Fernandina Beach.
Flagler Palm Coast, meanwhile, competed in the FSU Pre-State Invitational at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee. The meet drew some of the top runners and teams in the state to the site of the Nov. 12 state championships.
The FPC girls competed in the Elite Girls race, which was the top varsity division among four at the meet. The FPC boys competed in Select Boys, the No. 2 division.
Jada Williams finished 28th with a time of 19:28.80 to lead the FPC girls. Cassidy De Young was 98th with a time of 20:43.40. Sean Gilliam led the FPC boys with a 57th individual finish, crossing the finish in 17:22.60. Barak Olago was 90th at 17:43.30.
At the Coach Hope meet, five Matanzas boys finished among the top 10 to lead the Pirates to a first-place finish with 25 points. Zach Spooner took the first-place medal with a time of 17:03.7. Hunter Smith (17:59.0) was fourth.
Nina Rodriguez won the girls race for Matanzas which took team honors with 32 points. Rodriguez finished with a time of 21:00.3. Mariah Mills was fourth at 21:18.9.
FPC will compete in the Five Star Conference Meet at the Sperling Sports Complex in DeLand on Oct. 23. The Bulldogs' district meet will be Oct. 30 at Spruce Creek High School.
Matanzas' district meet will be Oct. 30 at Ponte Vedra.
