On Oct. 14, a Matanzas High School student was caught with a dab pen by the school administration. The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office school resource deputies were notified and, during the investigation, one of the SRDs was battered when the student resisted arrest.
The student was found to be in possession of a dab pen containing a thick brown fluid. The SRDs believed the substance to be hashish oil and through field testing the substance tested positive for illegal THC.
Upon placing him under arrest, one of the SRDs attempted to lift him from the chair, when the continued to resist and head-butted the SRD. He was then secured by both SRDs without further incident.
“This kid not only brought drugs to school but thought it was a good idea to batter one of my deputies,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “We have zero tolerance for drugs or violence on school campuses especially battering a deputy sheriff. This kid turned a minor crime into multiple felony charges. Parents, please talk to your kids and make sure they understand that possession of THC/hashish oil is not legal in Florida, and if your child is caught with it, they will be arrested.”
The juvenile was arrested for Possession of Hashish, Resisting Officer with Violence, and Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer. He was transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility and released to the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice.
