The Matanzas boys golf team won its third consecutive district championship Oct. 25 at Palatka Golf Club. On Oct. 26, the Matanzas girls golf team matched the boys by winning its third consecutive district championship on the same course.
Both Pirates squads advance to regional tournaments. The boys will play at Golden Ocala on Nov. 1. The girls will play at Turkey Creek Golf Club in Alachua on Nov. 2.
Alexandra Gazzoli won medalist honors in the girls District 4-2A tournament. The sophomore had four birdies on the way to a 2-under-par 70 to help the Pirates to a 387 team score. Ocala Vanguard finished second, 60 strokes back at 447, while Menendez was third at 480.
Matanzas freshman Zoe Alred finished finished fourth overall with an 89.
The Matanzas boys won their third district title in three years with a 312, 16 strokes ahead of second-place Tocoi Creek, which is a first-year school in St. Johns County, and 18 strokes ahead of third-place St. Augustine.
Four golfers shot under 80 for the Pirates -- senior Marcos Defeo finishing tied for second with a 77, Alek Libby and Ashtin Arlaud tied for fourth with a 78 and Trevor Challice tied for sixth with a 79.
Flagler Palm Coast's girls team finished fourth in the District 2-3A tournament at Hawkstone Golf and Country Club in Gainesville with a team score of 405. While the Bullodgs did not advance as a team to the regional tourney, Carmella Carlisi and Kate Parsons qualified as individuals.
Carlisi shot 77 and Parsons shot 81. They will get to play at Hawkstone again in the Region 1-3A tourney on Nov. 1.
