Flagler County school bus drivers who take on extra routes will be getting more money.

Many bus drivers have been taking taking on added routes in the afternoons due to the school district’s driver shortage.

Bus drivers will be paid $15 more a day plus the extra time they work at their regular rate for returning to school and taking on an extra route that would need to be covered. Bus driver aides will receive $13 extra for an added route in addition to the extra time they work at their regular rate.

The added compensation will be retroactive to Oct. 1.

At an Oct. 28 special meeting, the School Board unanimously approved the increases, which were were agreed upon by the district’s collective bargaining team and the Flagler Educational Support Professional Association.

“It’s a great way to attract bus drivers and also compensate current drivers working extra hours,” said Bobby Bossardet, Flagler Schools' assistant superintendent of academic services.
