Gary E. Johnston

  • Branch of Military: Army
  • Length/dates of service: 8 years
  • Rank/occupation: Sergeant
  • Hometown: Arab, Alabama
  • City of residence: Palm Coast (since 2012)

Sgt. Johnston did two 15-month tours in Iraq — OIF 1 and OIF 3 — and is now a disabled veteran.

He, along with Steve Branam, started the Flagler Warriors football program, which is run by veterans.

He wanted to give veterans a mission when they got home, since so many feel lost after separation from the military.

Johnston was also a spokesperson for Paws of War in Flagler County.

He comes from a long line of military veterans. His wife Rachel is an Army veteran as well, and they have two sons.
