Three games into the high school football season, Seabreeze (1-2) is still working on putting four strong quarters together.
The Sandcrabs did it against Ocala Forest in a 40-8 triumph, but they started slow in a season-opening loss to Spruce Creek and on Sept. 10 they fell to University on a late score.
The good news? Seabreeze has not played a district game yet. The Sandcrabs will open district play on Friday, Sept. 17, at Deltona.
A late 9-point rally carried University to a 27-23 victory at Daytona Stadium. Titans quarterback Tazz Figueroa scored on a 2-yard run with 45 seconds left.
“I feel like we started slacking,” Sandcrabs wide receiver Peyton Schofield said. “We thought it was a done-deal game. We need to fix the small details to make the bigger things better.”
After University jumped out to a 14-0 lead, Dimitri Campbell's long kickoff return set up brother Denali Campbell’s touchdown catch from Blake Boda to put the 'Crabs on the scoreboard.
Seabreeze went ahead 16-14 at the half as Toma Pouncey ran for a touchdown and Mason Motto kicked a 25-yard field goal. A one-handed touchdown catch by wide receiver Tashod Troutman closed out the scoring for the 'Crabs.
“It was the highlight for me when I caught the touchdown,” Troutman said. “We just got to get better at working collectively. Once we work together as a team, we will be number one.”
