On Thursday, Sept. 9, members of the Ormond Beach Fire Department walked 13 miles in honor of the 13 service members killed in Afghanistan.
The firefighters — Robert Zalewski, Kevin Holt, Patrick Soard, Francis Autorino, Christopher Wizansky, Rand Bennett, Justin Browder, Zach Snyder and Kristi Brown — walked from Fire Station 16 on Old Dixie Highway to Fire Station 91 on South Atlantic Avenue.
The Ormond Beach Police Department assisted with traffic control on their journey. The event was hosted and organized by Ormond Beach firefighter Robert Zalewski.
Halifax Health – Primary Care Ormond Beach, located at 1688 W. Granada Blvd. Suite 2A, recently announced that Dr. Irma E. Urrutia-Porter, a board-certified family physician, has joined their medical team.
According to a press release, Urrutia-Potter completed her medical school at Universidad Nacional Autonoma de México, in Mexico City, Mexico. She has post-doctorate training in cancer prevention and epidemiology from the
University of Arizona Cancer Center. She did her post-graduate residency training at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, a city where she had a private practice for several years and was the medical director for a nonprofit organization.

Ormond Strong, a local nonprofit whose mission is to raise awareness and support for active duty, military veterans and first responders, recently donated a check to the Veterans Museum and Education Center, which will cover the entire 20 years rent for their new location at 302 Vermont St. in Daytona Beach.
The donation was made in honor of Vietnam Veteran Dallas Proax, who was a vital part of the museum, as well as several veterans organizations and his church, according to a press release. The museum is currently located at 605 8th Street in Holly Hill.
