Volusia Sheriff's Office deputies have arrested a 61-year-old man on first-degree murder charges for the killing of a 62-year-old Ormond Beach woman, who was found dead in her home in the The Lakes of Pine Run community around 3:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 22.

On Sunday, Sept. 26, VSO reported that the deputies' investigation into the suspicious death of Elizabeth Crisanti, who exhibited "sharp force injuries" when she was found in her bedroom, revealed evidence that she was fearful of her boyfriend, Nelson Rivera, who was found lying unresponsive beside her in the bed. VSO initially reported he appeared to have overdosed on prescribed medication. Once he regained consciousness, he was transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail, where he is being held without bond.

VSO report that Crisanti described Rivera as "extremely controlling" and that she was planning "an exit strategy" to end the relationship. At the scene of the murder, detectives found signs of a struggle, but no sign of forced entry into the home.

Deputies had responded to the home on Wednesday, Sept. 22 after they were called by a relative to perform a well-being check after Crisanti failed to pick up her grandchildren from school. When no one came to the door, a family member provided deputies with a key to enter.
