One hundred and thirty eight runners participated in the River to Sea 6/12 Hour Race at the River To Sea Preserve on Saturday, Aug. 6.
The event is one of four ultra-races organized by East Coast Trail Racing in Flagler County throughout the year. The runners ran a 1-mile trail loop loaded with palm and oak trees.
Eighty-two runners competed in the 6-hour race and 56 in the 12-hour race. Women took two of the top-three places in each of the races.
Violetta Yazlovskaya, 25, of Titusville, won the 12-hour race, covering 72.68 miles in 11 hours, 49 minutes, 17 seconds. Kate Morgan, 41, of Lakeland, was second with 57.04 miles and Eric Desimone, 52, of Lake Worth, was third with 56.12 miles.
Matt Mueller, 37, of Fernandina Beach, won the 6-hour race, running 40.48 miles in 5:53.16. Second-place finisher and female winner Maria Urso, 46, of Jupiter also ran 40.48 miles but was 36 seconds behind Mueller with a time of 5:53.52. Laura Walker, 40, of Rockledge was third with 34.96 miles.
