Flagler County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a 22-year-old fugitive wanted in North Carolina after he ran into a heavily wooded area during a Palm Coast traffic stop.

The pursuit started late the night of Aug. 22, when a deputy stopped a car near Seminole Woods Boulevard and Squash Blossom Trail. Suspect Taylor Randall West, a passenger, ran into the woods near the Integra Woods Apartments.

Deputies caught him at about 9 a.m. Aug. 23, in Palm Coast’s  Seminole Woods neighborhood after FCSO patrol deputies, K9 units and aerial units from the Volusia Sheriff’s Office and the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office found him near Squash Blossom Trail, according to a news release from the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.

“I’m proud of how our deputies handled the search,” Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly said. “It can get difficult and dangerous to go into heavily wooded areas or into an apartment complex at night to capture one person, but catching this poison peddler was worth the time and effort.”

West is wanted in North Carolina and Virginia for violation of probation on charges including opium and heroin trafficking, resisting arrest, giving a false name to law enforcement, fentanyl possession and controlled drug paraphernalia.
