Volusia County Community Information

Volusia County will be completing storm debris removal by Friday, Dec. 9, for the unincorporated areas of Volusia County, as well as county-maintained roadways within city or town municipal limits. Residents in these areas are encouraged to call the county’s debris hotline number at 800-291-1205 to report any remaining debris for collection by Dec. 7.

Residents must separate vegetative debris from bagged debris and construction and demolition debris. The collection of bagged debris, electronics, and hazardous debris such as paint and tires will not be included. After Dec. 9, normal residential waste collection rules will apply. Residences in the unincorporated county shall follow the guidelines below to ensure collection after Dec. 9.

Normal residential solid waste collection guidelines will be in effect and are listed below:

  • Garbage pickup service includes the blue 95-gallon cart and two additional 32-gallon size containers.
  • Recycling
  • Yard trash pickup service is limited to 4 cubic yards per week. Limbs may not exceed 4 feet in length or 1 foot in diameter. Cans and limbs must weigh less than 60 pounds.
  • Whole trees cut or blown down are not included in yard trash service.
  • Collection for bulky items is limited to 4 pieces per week and includes: furniture, mattresses, appliances, carpet, boxes of “junk,” tires (with or without rims), swing sets, water heaters, equipment or the like. These four pieces will be collected on the scheduled garbage collection day.
  • Carpet must be cut, rolled, and tied (or taped) in bundles no greater than 4 feet by 8 feet, and no more than 60 pounds in weight.
  • Construction and demolition debris (aluminum siding, tile, screening, drywall) is not included with normal residential waste collection services. Homeowners are responsible for disposal.

Residents that are within the cities’ incorporated limits should check with their city's solid waste department for information and guidelines about waste collection.
