Daniel Zsizsek’s transition to a new lacrosse program has been seamless.
Playing in just his third game with Flagler Palm Coast, the Matanzas transfer scored four goals and dished 11 assists to help the Bulldogs thrash Tallahassee Chiles 15-3 on Feb. 25 at FPC.
Zsizsek did not have to start from scratch in learning his teammates' tendencies. He’s been playing with many of them for years in the Blue Skies and Flagler Firehawks programs.
“We’ve been playing together since we were really young, so we know each other really well,” the junior said.
Zsiszek said he has a particularly good rapport with senior Jesse Sustaita, who has committed to play lacrosse next year at Division II Post University in Connecticut.
Sustaita added two goals and five assists against Chiles.
“We usually know where each other is on the field,” Zsizsek said.
“Our offense is pretty dynamic. They spread the ball around pretty well.”
TOM MORGELLO, FPC boys lacrosse coach
Zsiszek was slated to play midfield for the Bulldogs, but he has been playing so well in attack, coach Tom Morgello decided to keep him there. Zsiskek has been a perfect fit, Morgello said. He has replaced Spencer Cover on the left side. Both of them are lefties.
“You always want a lefty on the left-side of the cage,” Morgello said.
Jordan Gales, Carson Kettman and Logan Johnson also scored two goals each against Chiles.
In their first three games, the Bulldogs outscored their opponents 37-14, with their only loss coming to Fleming Island, 10-9.
“Our offense is pretty dynamic,” Morgello said. “They spread the ball around pretty well.”
Faceoff specialist Brandon Calidonio has also been spectacular, winning 40 of 52 attempts, including 16 of 17 against Chiles, which kept the Bulldogs in possession for most of the game.
Goalie Steven Birdsong saved 29 shots through the first three games. And Dominic Tavolacci, another Matanzas transfer, has helped solidify the defense along with senior Gordon Beck, Morgello said.
“With our junior and senior class, this is the team that should make a good run,” said Morgello.
