Deputies arrested 40-year-old Daytona Beach resident Carlos Luis Cruise on Jan. 4 following a year-long investigation after two victims from Flagler County reported that he'd committed multiple sex crimes against them, starting when they were 10 years old.
Flagler County Sheriff’s Office Major Case Unit detectives began an investigation in January 2021, after the victims — a 16-year-old and a 20-year-old — reported the crimes and identified Cruise as the offender.
They said he'd committed multiple sex offenses against them when they were between 10 and 16.
The FCSO's Major Case Unit and Real Time Crime Center coordinated with the Daytona Beach Police Department and Volusia County Sheriff’s Office to investigate, according to an FCSO news release.
Deputies monitored phone calls between Cruise and a victim, during which Cruise described the crimes, according to his arrest report. They also obtained letters Cruise had written in which he described committing the crimes. Cruise swore under oath that the contents of the letters were true. An FCSO therapy dog names Goose helped aid the victims, according to an FCSO news release.
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office Crime Suppression Team arrested Cruise on Jan. 4 on three charges of lewd and lascivious molestation, according to the FCSO news release. He is being held on no bond.
“This is a sick and twisted individual who preyed on young children and took their innocence away,” Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly said. “I want to thank Detective Gossett, our partners with the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, and the Daytona Beach Police Department for their assistance in finally putting this disgusting dirtbag behind bars. I also want to make sure our therapy dog Goose is recognized for his efforts. His presence helped give our brave victims the courage to come forward with these ongoing and horrible crimes. I pray the victims receive the help they need to recover from this abuse and this guy stays behind bars where he belongs.”
