At the conclusion of a two-day trial on Friday, July 1, a Volusia County jury found defendant Judson Arne guilty of the second-degree felony charge of aggravated battery. He was then immediately sentenced to 15 years in the Florida State Prison as a prison releasee reoffender.
While serving a sentence at the Tomoka Correctional Institution in January 2021, Arne aided co-defendant Andrew Mitchell in committing a planned attack on another inmate. Video surveillance in the prison shows Mitchell stabbing the victim with a homemade knife. After he dropped the knife, Arne picked it up and stabbed the victim before disposing of the knife in a pipe chase. The victim was stabbed 12 times and was in the hospital for several days following the brutal attack.
Arne and Mitchell are both documented members of white supremacy gangs.
Assistant State Attorney Mark Interlicchio successfully tried the case for the State. Judge Elizabeth Blackburn presided over proceedings and pronounced the sentence.
