Thursday, July 14

Ormond Beach Area Democratic Club meeting

When: 7-8 p.m.

Where: 56 N. Halifax Drive, Ormond Beach

Details: The July meeting of the Ormond Beach Area Democratic Club will be in-person and on Zoom. Candidate Andy Kelly for County Council At-Large will speak. Other candidates may be in attendance, as well. Social visiting will be from 6:30-7 p.m. A zoom link request and club information is available at ormondbeachdems.org. Like-minded non-members are welcome to attend as guests. The club meets on the second Thursday of every month.

Lighthouses of Volusia County

When: 2 p.m.

Where: Ormond Beach Regional Library, 30 S. Beach St. Ormond Beach

Details: John Mann, lead docent at the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse and Museum, will speak about the three lighthouses in Volusia County. He will discuss their history, as well as facets of lighthouses throughout the world and history. Mann will also reveal one of Volusia's best kept historic secrets.  Registration is not required. Programs are cosponsored by the Friends of the Ormond Beach Library. Christmas in July at Mimi's Original Art

When: 5-7 p.m.

Where: Mimi's Original Art, 1385 U.S. 1, Ormond Beach

Details: Visit this local art gallery to get a head start on your holiday shopping. Sip on Wines with a Cause, enjoy light hors d'oeuvres and check out what is new at the gallery, which features over 26 artists. There will also be raffles and special sales. The gallery is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Summer Sounds

When: 6-8 p.m.

Where: Rockefeller Gardens, 26 Riverside Drive, Ormond Beach

Details: Bring a lawn chair or blanket and come celebrate summertime with a free night of music, presented by the city of Ormond Beach Department of Leisure Services. This week's band will be Blu Highway, a blues and Southern rock band. Call 676-3241.

Saturday, July 16

World War II tugboats

When: 10 a.m.

Where: Ormond Beach Regional Library, 30 S. Beach St., Ormond Beach

Details: Dan Friend, president and military curator at the DeLand Memorial Hospital and Veterans Museum, will discuss the World War II tugboats that were built on Lake Beresford in DeLand. Registration is not required. Programs are cosponsored by the Friends of the Ormond Beach Library. An evening of organ masterpieces with Caleb Klinzing

When: 6 p.m.

Where: St. James Episcopal Church Sanctuary, 44 S. Halifax Drive, Ormond Beach

Details: Attend this free organ concert featuring the works of J.S. Bach, Clerambault, Buxtehude, Vierne, and more.

Food Truck Tuesday

When: 4-8 p.m.

Where: Central Park in Town Center, 975 Central Ave., Palm Coast

Details: Presented in partnership with the Palm Coast Observer, July's Food Truck Tuesday will benefit the Parks and Recreation Summer Scholarship Program. Food trucks will feature a variety of appetizers, main dishes, side dishes and desserts available for purchase. There will be a performance by the BMX Trickstars as well as a Chalk Art Festival. Turtle Tech

When: 5:30 p.m.

Where: Ormond Beach Regional Library, 30 S. Beach St., Ormond Beach

Details: Dr. John Robbins, chair of the Aeronautical Science Department at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, will share information on the Turtle Tech program, which uses unmanned aircraft systems to collect data on sea turtle movement along Florida's Space Coast. Registration is not required. Programs are cosponsored by the Friends of the Ormond Beach Library. Creatures on the beach

Details: This exhibition showcases new painting, sculptures and photographs by 12 regional and national contemporary artists, including several of whom who are local. 

Water|Ways

When: July 9 through Sep. 3

Where: African American Museum and Cultural Center of Florida, 4422 N. U.S. 1, Palm Coast

Details: The African American Museum and Cultural Center of Florida, in partnership with the Florida Humanities, presents, "Water|Ways," a traveling exhibition from the Smithsonian's Museum on Main Street program. Water|Ways explores the endless motion of the water cycle, water's effect on landscape, settlement and migration, and its impact on culture and spirituality.
