The Flagler County Sheriff's Office's Motor and Traffic Unit has placed third in the Florida Law Enforcement Traffic Safety Challenge. The recognition event was held this week in Orlando.
In attendance from the FCSO was Community Policing Division (CPD) Chief Jon Welker, CPD Commander of Special Operations Scott Vedder and CPD Sgt. Adam Biss and Sgt. Chris Ragazzo.
Sheriff Rick Staly attended the award presentation to accept the award on behalf of FCSO.
FCSO often partners with local and state law enforcement agencies on creative initiatives to educate, enforce and prevent traffic crashes and violations. FCSO provides FLETSC with statistics for policies, participation initiatives, enforcement and traffic safety effectiveness. This collaborative effort to make our roads safer is why FCSO was nominated for this prestigious public safety challenge.
“The FCSO is committed to making our roadways safe for our residents,” Vedder said. “We also want to ensure the safety of those who visit our community. We will continue to make every effort to reduce crashes within our growing community and enjoyed participating in this statewide challenge! Being invited to this training was a great opportunity to learn and interact with other traffic units, and placing third in the state of Florida is a great honor.”
The FCSO placed third out of 34 participating agencies. All costs of attending the training were paid by FLETSC.
“It’s a great honor to have our Motors and Traffic Unit participate in this challenge and be awarded third place in Florida,” Staly said. “Anything we can do to enhance our roadway safety and learn from agencies across Florida is always something we pride ourselves with. I’m very proud of our dedicated team for excelling in this challenge and being recognized for their hard work.”
The Florida Law Enforcement Liaison (LEL) Program is a grant funded program sponsored by the Florida Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The goal of the LEL Program is to partner with law enforcement agencies to promote and increase participation in the NHTSA national enforcement waves and the annual Florida Law Enforcement Liaison Traffic Safety Challenge to increase awareness and participation in traffic safety efforts.
