During a hearing this afternoon, Dillon Calisi pled no contest to 10 charges including four felonies: Attempted aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, attempt to deprive officer of protection or communication, fleeing or attempting to elude lights and siren activity and possession of a firearm by convicted state felon.

He was sentenced to 20 years in Florida State Prison.

In February 2020, Calisi was encountered by an officer while he was sleeping in a vehicle at an Ormond Beach gas station. Calisi then got out of the vehicle and began to argue with the officer. During the altercation, he hit the officer in the head and tried to take his firearm and taser. Calisi drove off and was later spotted by police in Holly Hill. After a pursuit, he crashed his vehicle and barricaded himself in another vehicle. There was a two-and-a-half hour standoff with police where Calisi made multiple violent threats before a SWAT team approached and arrested him.

“The defendant has multiple felony convictions including a prior resisting officer with violence and carrying a concealed weapon,” said State Attorney R.J. Larizza of the case. “His penchant for violent criminal activity escalated with his most recent slew of aggressive and desperate crimes. Consequently, public safety demanded a lengthy prison sentence.”

Assistant State Attorney Ashley Terwilleger successfully prosecuted the case for the State. The Honorable Judge Leah Case presided over the case.
