The Palm Coast Little League Junior All-Stars (age 13 to 14) won the Section 3 baseball title to advance to the state tournament July 22-24 in Hudson, Florida.
"This was a total team effort. All 13 boys contributed to us winning," said coach Jason Walaskay.
The Palm Coast squad handily defeated San Mateo/Arlington in two games — 16-2 and 25-0 — in a best 2-out-of-3 on July 16 at Indian Trails Sports Complex. Only two Little League organizations in the section had teams competing in the Junior division.
"When you get above the 12 year olds, there is a lot of competition from other leagues (for players to participate)," said Walaskay, who has coached youth baseball for over 20 years.
"We have a great bunch of kids. I think we have a very good shot at winning state," he said.
The Palm Coast Junior team players are: Liam Smith, Brandon Normandin, Reggie Bass, Kayden Echeverria, Dioz Cruz, Julian Guendel, Justin Gardner, Kayden Kadashaw, Kameron Roberts, Elijah Avila, Nigel Sejda, Damian Paulsen and Andrew Tygrest. The coaches include Walaskay, Dave Smith, Cesar Berrios and Kailee Smith.
