AdventHealth’s 2021 community investment exceeds $1.3 billion

The total included $109.96 million in charity care to uninsured or under-insured patients.

AdventHealth spent $1.31 billion addressing the health care needs of Central Floridians in 2021, according to a report released July 28 by AdventHealth.

“As a not-for-profit health system, we invest our resources back into providing vital services to our communities,” Randy Haffner, president and CEO of AdventHealth’s Central Florida Division, said in a news release. “It’s a core part of how we carry out our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ outside the walls of our hospitals.”

AdventHealth's Community Investment Report covers AdventHealth’s 2021 investment in Flagler, Volusia, Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Polk counties. The funding breakdown is:

  • $109.96 million in charity care to uninsured and under-insured patients
  • $318.07 million in coverage shortfalls (unpaid costs to enroll patients in Medicaid or other government assistance​)
  • $33.36 million​ in funding for community health services​
  • $60.47 million in health professional education and research​
  • $21.30 ​million in cash and in-kind contributions​
  • $570.13 in capital investments
  • $10.58 million for faith-based care to meet spiritual needs

“We’ve seen increases in demand for a whole range of services, most notably mental health care,” said Haffner. “We are honored to support our nonprofit partners as they provide much-needed support to our neighbors in need.”
