Douglas Fourman was both a sailor and a soldier, but not at the same time, of course. In the Navy, he served as an active duty quartermaster on the U.S.S. Mullinnix DD-944 and the U.S.S. Brownson DD-868 from 1969 to 1973. In 1977, he enlisted in the Army and served on active duty until 1982 as a combat medic in the 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, Texas, and later as Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of a medical unit at Fort Riley, Kansas. Fourman returned to the Navy as a reservist from 1984 to 1986. He then rounded out an interesting military career back on active duty in the Army from 1986 to 1985 and served as an infantryman and a helicopter avionics technician at various assignments stateside and in Korea. Fourman retired from the Army as a Staff Sergeant. He and his late wife Nancy moved to Palm Coast in 2008.
