Preparations for some families’ Christmas celebrations will begin July 9, at Jackie Robinson Ballpark — and they won’t even know it.
For every ticket sold to the July 9 Daytona Beach Tortugas game, $3 will be donated to Christmas Come True, which helps Flagler County families throughout the year, including during the holidays. Tickets can be purchased by using the following link: https://fevo.me/christmascometrue or purchased at the gate. The game’s raffle will be 50/50, with CCT receiving half of the funds.
Christmas in July and Flagler County Night begins at 7:05 p.m. Saturday, July 9, at Jackie Robinson Ballpark, 105 E. Orange Ave, Daytona Beach, when the Tortugas face the St. Lucie Mets.
Christmas celebrations do not need to be limited to the month of December, said Nadine King, who founded CCT 14 years ago out of her guest bedroom. Since then, CCT has helped more than 1,000 families and 3,000 children in Flagler County.
King said she promised God that when she had the opportunity to begin a legacy, she would. CCT is a God-driven campaign, she said.
The 2008 economic crash put King and many others in a hard place. “People were str
uggling, and the school system was buried in needs,” King said. “And so I started Christmas Come True to help the families here in Flagler County.”
CCT assisted 164 families with 503 children last year alone. In addition to toys, Christmas meals have also been provided for families in need.
“It's just as if mom went to the grocery store and bought everything that the kids wanted,” King said. The families are provided with a turkey, potatoes, fresh vegetables, dinner rolls and more.
As well as Christmas festivities, birthday celebrations, with gifts and a cake, can also be provided for children.
In order to bring in steady funds for the organization in a timely manner, King began her own store, Begin Again Home Goods, which sells homemade jewelry and soaps, antiques, paintings and furniture. All money is used for monthly expenses, and each penny goes back into assisting families.
CCT is also hosting its sixth-annual golf tournament on Sept. 12, presented by Mezzaluna Pizzeria. The event is almost sold out. To purchase tickets, contact King at (386) 569-4429 or email [email protected].
