Oh deer

4:42 a.m. — First block of Box Elder Court

Animal complaint. Police were dispatched to the home of an 81-year-old Ormond Beach man after a burglary alarm went off, and the culprit turned out to be of the four-legged kind.

According to the incident report, the man told police that he had heard a loud noise before the alarm went off, and police saw that the glass door leading to a back room had been knocked down. Suspecting the home had been burglarized, the reporting officer called for a second unit to assist. The residence was cleared, and police noted the damage was only present in the back room of the home, with paintings and paint brushes scattered on the floor along with the broken glass.

That's when an officer noticed deer prints on the ground leading up to the room, as well as fur on the door and all over the room. Another officer said he had also seen a deer when he turned onto the street.

Officers thus concluded that the suspect in this case was indeed, a deer.

Park prowler

10:47 a.m. — 2000 block of North Beach St.

Loitering or prowling. A 31-year-old Holly Hill man was arrested after he was seen attempting to open car doors while at a local state park.

Police spoke with park rangers, who advised they had approached the man but that he had taken off into the bushes and only emerged after police were called. The man then told the park rangers that he had paid to enter the park; this was determined to be a lie, as the employee at the front gate said otherwise.

The man told officers that he had come to the park because he was interested in its statue, and said he believed he had come inside the park yesterday, but that he had fallen asleep in the woods. He admitted into looking inside other vehicles, but stated that "he was not on drugs, and he was in his 'right state of mind,'" according to his arrest report.

The man, who was on probation for a previous burglary charge, was trespassed from the park. He was taken to jail.
