The Matanzas boys weightlifting team remained undefeated with a win and a tie March 2 against Nease and Pedro Menendez.
Matanzas and Nease tied for first in the tri-match at the Pirates' gym with 43 points. Menendez tallied 24 points.
Cole Hash, the Pirates' 183-pounder, lifted the most weight in the match. His 570-pound total (315 bench press, 255 clean and jerk) was higher than anyone in four heavier weight classes.
The Pirates had three other weight-class winners: 129-pounder Cameron Sleep (350-pound total), 139-pounder Aiden Schissler (440 total) and 154-pounder Jacob Warren (425 total).
FPC dominated in its final regular-season boys weightlifting match on March 1. FPC won the traditional title with 68 points over Father Lopez (36), DeLand (33) and Jacksonville University Christian. The Bulldogs also won the snatch title, accumulating 56 points, with DeLand second with 24 points and University Christian third with four points.
Dom Bennett broke school records in the 139-pound weight class with a 260-pound clean and jerk and a 515-pound total. Other traditional event winners for the Bulldogs were 129-pounder Nick Lilavois (390 pound total), 154-pounder Isaiah Rivers (540 total), 183-pounder Nick Groth (525 total), 219-pounder Rigens Andre (660 total) and 238-pounder Thomas Desantoli (595 total).
Andre did not miss a lift and had the top bench press (360 pounds) and clean and jerk (300 pounds) in the match.
FPC shut out Pedro Menendez 26-0 in its flag football opener on March 7 in St. Augustine.
The Bulldogs' boys lacrosse team improved to 6-1 with a 20-0 home win against Atlantic Coast on March 7. FPC has won five games in a row heading into a March 10 home match against Gainesville Buchholz. Jesse Sustaita leads the team with 22 goals, while Daniel Zsizsek has 18 goals and 35 assists.
FPC grad Michael DeAugustino of Northwestern placed fourth in the 125-pound class at the Big Ten Conference wrestling championships to advance to nationals March 17-19 in Detroit.
