Volusia County Beach Safety reported that a woman in Ormond Beach drowned on Monday, March 14, after she was pulled from the water by bystanders.

According Deputy Chief Tamra Malphurs, spokesperson for Beach Safety, a 911 call was received sometime after 1:30 p.m. in reference to the initiation of CPR on an unresponsive woman. Beach Safety reports she had been found floating in the ocean in an unguarded area of the beach at 187 S. Atlantic Ave.

Witnesses sad they didn't see the woman —who has not been identified — struggling, but saw her floating face-down. Bystanders performed CPR until Beach Safety arrived, and the woman was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

This is a developing story. It will be updated as more information is available.
