Cracker Day is back.

The popular event sponsored by the Flagler County Cattlemen's Association will return to the Flagler County Fairgrounds on Saturday, March 26.

The event was canceled the past two years because of the pandemic.

“I think it's going to be amazing,” said Pat Cody, the secretary of the cattlemen's association. “People are just excited. They're ready to gather again.”

The day begins at 8 a.m. with the Flagler County Rough Riders hosting barrel racing and pole bending. The rodeo begins at noon with a grand opening featuring the former Cracker Day queen riding her horse around the arena and the announcement of this year's queen. The first event on the schedule is bull riding. Other events include barrel racing, chute dogging, sack race, ribbon roping and steer saddling.

Free children's events include a chicken chase, a pig chase and a boot race. Every competitor who catches a chicken or pig will receive $5, said Cody.

“People are just excited. They're ready to gather again.”

Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cody, who used to make all the baked beans and coleslaw, said cooks will be barbecuing 4,000 pounds of beef to go with 125 gallons of baked beans. She said 750 pounds of cabbage will be used to make the coleslaw.

Tickets to Cracker Day are $20 and include lunch.

This will be the 65th year of the event, said Cody, who has attended every Cracker Day since 1971.

“I believe we're going to have an amazing turnout,” she said.
