The ninth-annual Tomoka Marathon took place in Ormond Beach on Saturday, March 19, bringing over 1,200 runners to town.
In addition to the full marathon, which is a Boston Marathon qualifier, the race featured a half marathon and a 5K run/walk, all starting and ending at The Casements. Funds raised at the event are returned to the local community in a variety of ways, according to the Tomoka Marathon website. Donations are made to student and citizen groups who volunteer, and some of the groups in the past have included: The Volusia Flagler Family YMCA, Team RWB, Seabreeze Boys cross country team, Boy Scouts of America, Ormond Beach Civil Air Patrol, ERAU Lady Eagles Soccer Team and the Halifax Health Foundation.
The presenting sponsor of this year's race was UF Health Heart & Vascular Surgery at Halifax Health.
