Zavier Mincey's two first-place finishes in the jumping events helped propel Mainland to second place in the boys' standings at the Volusia-Flagler Freshman-Sophomore Track and Field Championships on March 23 at Matanzas High School.
Seabreeze finished second in the girls' competition at the meet, which had been postponed from March 9 because of rain.
Mincey won the high jump with a leap of 5 feet 11.5 inches, winning by a tiebreak over Spruce Creek Zion Noralus. The Mainland sophomore handily won the long jump with a distance of 20 feet, 3 inches. FPC's Cody Newton was second, more than a foot short of Mincey, at 18 feet, 7 inches.
The Bucs also took first place in discus with Micah Mcquire throwing a meet-best 111 feet, 7 inches. Seabreeze's Hayden Herndon won the boys' 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:46.78.
Mainland's Emmanuel Yisrael finished second in the 110-meter hurdles (16.81 seconds). Seabreeze's Shamar Durham was second in the 300 hurdles (44.2).
Mainland's Drayden Wood was second in the 400-meter run with a time 53.41 seconds, and the Bucs' Ezaiah Shine was third in the 100-meter dash (11.56).
Seabreeze freshman Mackenzie Roy won the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:35.11, while her twin sister, Ariana Roy, was a couple of seconds behind in second place at 5:37.78. Mackenzie Roy also finished second in the 300 hurdles (55.77 seconds).
Mainland's Marin Hawryluk won the girls' 800 with a time of 2:35.7. Ariana Roy (2:38.22) was second.
Father Lopez' Adelae Fulton finished third in javelin and fourth in discus and shot put. Seabreeze's Isabella Fontanelli finished third in the discus and fifth in shot put. The Sandcrabs' Aliana Martin was third in the 100 hurdles.
The Seabreeze girls were second in the 4x800 relay. Mainland was second in the girls' 4x400 relay.
Flagler Palm Coast won the boys' overall title. Matanzas won the girls' title.
