Golfer Loa Johannsson became the youngest person to sign an athletic scholarship with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
Johannsson will be 16 when she graduates from Mainland High School in May. She will join the Eagles in the fall.
Johannsson won Five Star Conference, district and region titles last fall and finished seventh at the Class 2A girls state championships in November. She averaged 71 in 18-hole matches and 37 in nine-hole matches for the Bucs.
"We are so excited for Loa to be a part of our program," Embry-Riddle women's golf coach Maria Lopez said. "She fit in well with our team during her visit and will continue to honor the legacy of what Embry-Riddle women's golf is all about. Loa is passionate about our university's mission, and her golf talent is immense. For her to embody the student-person-player philosophy at such a young age is outstanding."
