John Thrasher to keynote Flagler Tiger Bay Club May meeting

The retired Florida State University President will speak on higher education.

The Flagler Tiger Bay Club's luncheon speaker in May will be John E. Thrasher, retired president of Florida State University.

Thrasher has a long and distinguished career serving Florida.

The 2017 Florida Veterans’ Hall of Fame inductee began his career in public service as a member of the U.S. Army in Vietnam, earning two Bronze Stars, before later being elected to the Florida House of Representatives where he served as Speaker of the House from 1999-2000. Thrasher was elected to the Florida Senate in 2009, where he continued his service until becoming the 15th president of Florida State University.

Thrasher returned to his alma mater in 2014, presiding over a $1 billion fundraising campaign.

Thrasher is currently a member of The Southern Group, a Tallahassee-based government relations firm.
