Residents of Flagler County utilized the National Prescription Drug Take Back locations, provided by the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, to safely and properly dispose of 74.75 pounds of unneeded or expired medication on Saturday, April 30.

“I want to thank the community for helping to dispose of unwanted and expired prescriptions properly and safely,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “A special thanks to our partner, Publix, and to our deputies that assisted the community and staffed the drop-off locations.”

The goal of the 2022 National Prescription Drug Take Back is to address crucial public safety and public health issues. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained by family and friends, often from a home medicine cabinet.

Just because National Drug Take Back Day is over does not mean you cannot still dispose of unused medications properly. If you have medication that you would like to turn in, please visit https://takebackday.dea.gov/ to find a year-round drop-off location near you.
