The Flagler Palm Coast Kiwanis presented two special FPC Key Club scholarships last month in the name of Joe Rizzo “for his tireless efforts on behalf of the Flagler County Education Foundation.”
FPC Key Club president Hailey Bovino and treasurer Amber Johnson were awarded the Joe Rizzo Scholarships, each in the amount of $500. Vicky Eaton, the Key Club's faculty advisor, received special recognition. Teresa Rizzo spoke at the presentation. Teresa Rizzo has been named the Ed Foundation's executive director, replacing her husband, Joe, who died in March.
The Kiwanis also celebrated seniors of the month: Ethan Drost, Marisa Pereira and Andie Tice of Matanzas and Rayliana Giaccone, Kenneth Logan and Aaron Cope of FPC.
SCHOOL SPOTLIGHTS
At its May 17 meeting, the School Board honored the winners of the Flagler County 4-H Public Speaking Competition. Competitors gave speeches before their peers at school and then before judges and spectators at the Flagler County Extension Auditorium.
Wesley Kannan of Wadsworth Elementray School won the fourth and fifth grade division. Bunnell Elementary School's Brayden Norton-Henry won the sixth grade division.
Other place winners included: Tyler Reiter of Bunnell Elementary (second) and Mackenzie MacDonald of Rymfire Elementary (third) in the fourth-fifth grade division and Madelyn Hate (second) of Old Kings Elementary and Tahlia Miraballes (third) of Wadsworth Elementary in the sixth grade division.
Also, receiving spotlights at the May 17 School Board meeting were the winners of the Crime Stoppers student poster competition, and Flagler Schools Spelling Bee winner Spencer Edelstein of Buddy Taylor Middle School.
WALL OF FAME
Matanzas High continued its tradition of hanging up its new Wall of Fame photos. Receiving honors were Citizenship Award winner Tori Phillips, Principal’s Award winner Tare Winecoff, Pirate Award winner Alyssa Sa and Scholarship Award winner Karissa Jackson.
FESPA SCHOLARSHIP
Flagler Educational Support Professional Association president Bron Hudson presented Matanzas graduate Karissa Jackson with a yard sign honoring her as the recipient of the FESPA Becky Harper Scholarship.
Jackson and FPC's Kaylee Briggs attended their final meeting on May 17 as Student School Board Members. Superintendent Cathy Mittelstadt and School Board members honored Jackson and Briggs at the end of the meeting.
