Parkview Church is hoping to break ground on a new wing in late summer, said Barry Peters, Parkview's discipleship and development pastor.
The expansion project will include renovating the current space and constructing a 17,200 square-foot addition that will include a new auditorium — where the church holds its services — with 721 seats.
"Right now, we're in the permit process. The plans are done. The contractor is hired. We'd love to see building start in August or September, and the Lord willing, be done by fall of 2023."

"Right now, we're in the permit process," said Peters. "The plans are done. The contractor is hired. We'd love to see building start in August or September, and the Lord willing, be done by fall of 2023."
Renovation will include converting the current auditorium that seats 400 into a next generation space for children and teenagers. The new space will include a next gen. auditorium that will seat 200, a nursery, an indoor play area and 10 breakout rooms.
The area where children and teens currently gather will be converted into a lobby, which the area was originally designed for. The renovation will allow the church to triple its next generation space to 18,000 square feet.
The new wing will include the new auditorium with upgraded audio and video technology and multipurpose rooms on the first floor. The second floor will house an office suite and breakout rooms. The project will also include expanded parking on the back of the property. The outdoor basketball court will also be moved to the back of the property.
The expansion will cost $5 million and renovating the current space will cost $1 million, Peters said. Church members have donated $1.5 million of the project through a vision initiative and have committed another $1.5 million over the next two years, Peters said. The church will finance the remaining cost.
The total cost of the initiative is $6.45 million, which includes providing $350,000 to Parkview's LPGA campus to help purchase property to build a new independent church and $100,000 donated to Trinity Baptist College in Jacksonville to help fund its new academic center.
This will be Parkview Church's third expansion since its current facility opened in 2002 at 5435 Belle Terre Parkway. The auditorium was expanded in 2011 and the lobby/gathering room was added in 2017. The 7.5-acre property was purchased in 1999.
The average weekly attendance for Parkview's church services has grown to 978 from a low of 725 during the COVID year of 2020 and is approaching the 2019 high of 1,093. The church currently has three weekly services (Saturday at 5 p.m., Sunday at 9 and 11 a.m.) Pre-COVID, it had a fourth service in the gathering room on Sunday mornings.
"We're blessed with so many people moving here. Our guest flow is quite large," said Peters, who is the brother of Pastor Greg Peters.
The church was founded 25 years ago.
