Matanzas High School wrestlers Christina Borgmann and Saiomy Cabrera each won championships in their weight classes at Florida AAU States on May 27 at Palm Bay Magnet High School.
Borgmann won the combined 125 and 135-pound weight class in the girls high school division with five consecutive pins. Four of her pinfalls came in the matches' first round. The rising sophomore finished eighth in the state at the FHSAA's first girls state championships in March.
Cabrera won by two pins and a decision in her three matches to win the 135, 140 and 145-pound combined weight class in the girls division.
Three other Matanzas wrestlers finished second in their weight class in the girls' division: Mariah Mills in the combined 105, 110 and 115-pound class, Gabrielle Proctor in the 155-pound class and Brooklyn Watt in the 190-pound class.
