A herd of trouble

8 p.m., 12900 block of County Road 305, Bunnell

Criminal mischief. A ranch manager for a property on County Road 305 reported damage to the gate to the property's cattle pasture fence in the evening of Oct. 22. The gate was lying on the ground, completely off of its hinges and bowed in the middle, the incident report said. The ranch manager said the damage was $750 to repair, and estimated it happened between 5 and 6 p.m.

The ranch manager said it was possible someone damaged the gate while hunting deer on the property, the report said. There was no camera footage, obvious paint transfer on the gate or any broken glass on the ground. There are no suspects at the time of the incident report.

Thrown in the can

10 p.m., 200 block of Lake Success Drive, Palm Coast

Simple battery. A landlady was arrested for simple battery when she threw canned food at her renter, hitting the woman on the toe, on Oct. 26.

The Flagler County Sheriff's Office had responded to the address multiple time for ongoing civil issues between the landlady and tenant, the charging affidavit said. On this day, the tenant had video recorded on her cell phone of the incident, the report said.

The deputies watched the video, showing the tenant walking into the garage to do laundry and grab food from her pantry when the landlady entered and began accusing the renter of stealing, the report said.

The two continued to argue before the tenant left for her room, where the argument became physical. The report states the video shows the landlady following the tenant to the her bedroom door with two cans of food.

The landlady threw the cans — first underhand, then in a low overhand — at the tenant. Both hit the woman on the toe on her right foot, the report said. A house guest visiting the landlady brought two more cans and placed them on the floor in front of the door, and then the video ends.

The house guest and landlady both told deputies that they were just trying to set the food on the floor, the report said.

Based on the evidence in the video and the women's history, the report said, the deputies arrested the landlady on a charge of simple battery. Photos of the damage to the tenant's toes were taken for evidence.
