The event, this year with a "Boots 'N Bling" theme, had returned after a three-year hiatus, and attendees honored local community leaders Bill and Mary Lenssen, according to a news release from Daytona State College.

Florida Gov. Lawton Chiles had appointed Lenssen to the college’s District Board of Trustees in 1991. Lenssen later transitioned to the DSC Foundation Board of Directors, which he has been involved with for 27 years. The couple have served on boards of education, banks and nonprofits.

The Lenssens have established the Bill and Mary Lenssen Family Endowment, which will provide scholarships for students seeking a degree or certificate in any area of study.

To apply for the Lenssen Family Endowment scholarships — which are among more than 240 scholarships available through the Foundation — visit DaytonaState.edu/Scholarships and apply through the Foundation Scholarship application.
