The Halifax Art Festival returned to downtown Daytona Beach for the 60th year on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 5 and 6.
A total of 236 artists participated in the juried festival, which is presented by the Guild of the Museum of Arts and Sciences in partnership with the Daytona Beach Downtown Development Authority, and run entirely by volunteers to benefit the museum. Of the 236 artists, came from 175 from the state of Florida. A total of 17 were from Ormond Beach and Ormond-by-the-Sea.
One of the local artists participating in the show was Wendy Foreman, a silver jewelry artist. The first show Foreman ever took part in was the Halifax Art Festival in 2010, and she said it's great that the festival brings this level of talent to the Daytona Beach area.
"The show is very well curated," Foreman said. "You can find some really high class art here."
Foreman began creating jewelry in high school, and pursued it in college as well. Her jewelry is often a combination of geometric shapes and fluid lines — she loves the juxtaposition of including both in her pieces.
"I just love working with the metal in my hands," Foreman said. "I love the feel of it in my hands how I can sculpt it and manipulate it into something beautiful."
