Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect as Nicole moves across west Central Florida

The NOAA Coastal Marine Automated Station in St. Augustine reported average winds of 52 mph and a wind gust of 70 mph.

Tropical Storm Nicole is moving across west Central Florida with strong winds and a dangerous storm surge.

The center of the storm was located about 30 miles northeast of Tampa, the National Hurricane Center reported in its 10 a.m. advisory. 

A Tropical Storm Warning and a Storm Surge warning remains in effect for Volusia and Flagler counties.

The Tropical Storm Warning stretches from Sebastian Inlet to South Santee River, South Carolina. The Storm Surge Warning is in effect from Sebastian Inlet to Altamaha Sound, Georgia. Storm surge could reach a height of 3-5 feet at high tide.

Nicole remains a large tropical storm. Tropical-storm force winds extend outward up to 345 miles from the center, especially to the northeast, the NHC reported.

Shortly before 10 a.m., the NOAA Coastal Marine Automated Station at St. Augustine reported 10-minute average winds of 52 mph and a wind gust of 70 mph.
