The largest State of Diabetes Conference the American Diabetes Association has ever held took place at the Ocean Center on Nov. 19, according to a press release.
The conference was attended by over 500 people and featured 25 vendors and 12 guest speakers who led discussions on patient education related to diabetes management, prevention and overall health and wellness.
Mica Lill, executive director of the Florida ADA, said in the press release that the ADA was pleased to host this annual event in Volusia, in partnership with Halifax Health and the Lohman Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology.
“This was an opportunity for community members and caregivers from across central Florida to get together for the latest news on treatments and technology for diabetes," Lill said.
The Lohmans presented the ADA with a $100,000 donation at the conference. The Lohman Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology has seen over 1,200 patients since its founding. The center is growing with the need and plans to add a nurse navigator, advanced practiced registered nurse and a second endocrinologist, the press release states.
“Our vision for The Lohman Center for Diabetes includes endocrinology clinical care, nutrition and education and community outreach,” Nancy Lohman said.
