Families from Flagler County and St. Johns County gathered at Daytona State College's Palm Coast campus for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Oct. 15, raising more than $35,000 to fund care and support programs.
Flagler County resident Melissa Wos walked in honor of her mother, who died in Nov. of 2021 after a 10-year battle with Alzheimer’s, according to a news release from the Alzheimer's Association.
“Walking to end Alzheimer's is a vital part of finding a cure for this horrific disease,” Wos said.
Wos’ mother was one of the more than 4,000 people living with Alzheimer’s in Flagler County. Wos said she hopes the money raised at the walk will continue the fight for answers and help other families feel less alone, according to the news release.
The Walk to End Alzheimer's is the world’s largest event to raise funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. On the day of the walk, participants honor those affected by Alzheimer’s with a ceremony.
