More storage facility space is in the works for the property located at 520 and 540 Flagler Road in the North U.S. 1 corridor.

BHT Holdings LLC seeks a rezoning from “B-7 Highway Tourist Commercial” to Planned Business Development and a development order for two parcels at 520 and 540 Flagler Road. The developer aims to construct two buildings spanning 11,999 square feet for “industrial flex space”  at 520 Flagler Road, and a four-story storage facility at 540 Flagler Road. The latter would measure about 110,900 square feet and also include 28 recreational vehicle and boat storage spaces, according to a city memo. Both parcels measure about 5.73 acres combined.

This is the first development application for the property, which is currently vacant. The city stated in its memo that the area — near the Florida East Coast railroad — is appropriate for storage and industrial flex space. There are no wetlands on the site, and the property is not in a flood zone.

The City Commission unanimously approved on first reading both the rezoning and the issuance of the development order for the “North Interchange” PBD at its meeting on Oct. 18. The items came before the commission with a unanimous recommendation to approve by the Ormond Beach Planning Board; no one spoke for or against the project at the Planning Board and City Commission meetings. The city also noted that it didn’t receive any citizen correspondence objecting to the rezoning or development order.

A second reading of the hearings will take place at the commission meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 1. A second reading of a development order for Tattersall at Tymber Creek, a 129-home residential project approved 3-2 on Oct. 18, is also scheduled for the Nov. 1 meeting.

Culver’s coming to Ormond?

Ormond Beach’s Site Plan Review Committee conducted a pre-application meeting last week for a 4,460-square foot Culver’s fast food restaurant, according to the city’s recent staff report.

The restaurant was proposed to be located at 655 W. Granada Blvd., on the north side of Granada Pointe. Other projects under review by the SPRC include the construction of 21 rental townhomes at 183 S. Orchard St. and a three-story self-storage facility at 1 S. Old Kings Road.

Debris effort is ongoing

The city reported that its contracted hauler, Crowder Gulf, has put six more trucks into service. There are now 14 trucks collecting storm debris in the city.

Through Oct. 19, the city reported that Crowder Gulf had collected over 40,000 cubic yards of storm debris. Crowder Gulf is working seven days a week, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The city expects all debris to be collected by Nov. 23.

DOH waves well testing fees

As of Tuesday, Oct. 15, the Florida Department of Health in Volusia County will waive fees for bacteriological tests for private, residential wells for residents living in flooded areas.

The waiver will be in effect for the next couple of weeks, according to a news release.

DOH states that after flooding, well owners should take steps to restore their private water supply as well water may be contaminated with waterborne germs that can cause serious illness in humans and pets.

Schedule a test by emailing  [email protected] or by calling 386-624-0483. A contact name, address, phone number and email address is required. The waiver doesn’t apply to new construction.
